The poets and philosophers before me discovered the unconscious. What I discovered was the scientific method by which the unconscious can be studied.

Sigmund Freud, upon being introduced as “the discoverer of the unconscious” at his seventieth birthday celebration. (via langer)

(I had a comment, but I’ve got to learn to shut it more often, so will refrain, even though it wasn’t a bad comment).

Ok, Jmarie, what are you REALLY angry about?  (I’m angry about that dream I had about driving a huge sausage to the abatoir…)

I’m not angry at all.  I was just going to write that Freud discovered his scientific method, and that there were others as well as Freud.

I seem to ruffle feathers far too often……(so am trying to be good, it’s very hard)

No, no, I know you aren’t angry.  I would never suggest that.  I was trying to do a (very bad) parody of some of the shysters who proclaim themselves “Freudians”.  You know the sort!  They have read a fortune cookie and they think they are experts.  They’ll watch “Psycho” and say stuff like “Ooooh I think he had ‘issues’ with his mother”.  How profound.

BTW I think some people need their feathers ruffled.  It is good for them.  They like it!
